A Match-Bro is a little box the size of a cigarette pack that mounts on the right end of your steel.
It does two things:
1. buffer amp to improve your straight steel sound
2. dobro effect that you can turn on and off.

IMHO they are overpriced but OTOH they work very well.

A Matchbox and a Matchbro are two different things. I have a late model Matchbro. The only thing it does, is to give a dobro effect. On bypass it does nothing to the sound. It is also about 31/2 x 6 x 2 inches thick. I like it very well as it does not change my tone, when not in use, also battery life is a long time. Mine was $375.00. The newest models are about $500.00, I believe. The dobro effect is very real sounding to me. I did not care for my Matchbox unit and sold it not to long after I bought it. Every one likes different things though, so you might like one. Some people swear by them, and I see a lot of people using them. They are in the $200 range, I think. I have forgotten.

I have one of the older original model MatchBro's with a bypass tone control. On the older models in the bypass position it acts like a Matchbox type device. The newer models do not have the low impedence buffer amplifier.

If it doesn't match, then they should just call it a Bro.
