This has been brought up in the past, but I don't remember that there was ever a straight answer (sorry if I'm mistaken about that). Can anyone elaborate on this? Particularly what would the expected tonal responses be between the two?

I spoke with Bill Lawrence a few days ago about this same question. (Actually I was looking for his recommendation for a pickup to put in my Mullen SD-10.)

Anyway I did ask him about the difference between the 710 and the 710-8. He said, basically, that the whole issue of a difference between the two is overblown. He said the difference is so slight that either pickup can be made to sound like the other by making amp adjustments.

But, don't take my word for it, give the man himself a call. You can get his phone number from the website. http://www.billlawrence.com/
