A thread a little while back on the difference between George L, Belden and old Lawrence cable inspired me to pull out some of my old cables and I find that most of my older connectors are brass and have tarnished quite a bit. Does this effect how well they conduct electricity? If so any advice on how to clean them, especially the inside where the cable connects?
Thanks

The inside shouldn't be a problem since the prong that penetrates the inside lead wire is chromed or stainless steel and the setscrew that connects to the ground is steel as well. As for the outside brass, I've done a light sanding with fine sandpaper and that has worked well.

Guys,
Jewelery cleaner will make these babies look like new. Soak them for about 1 minute and rinse with warm water, and blow dry.

When I was in the Air Force we cleaned all the Patch Cords with brass plugs (e.g. PL55) with Brasso and fine steel wool.

All my original studio plugs are brass. There is a machine I used to own that would clean them. You stick the plug in like a pencil sharpener. The unit was filled with a fine sand. Once I sold that, I started using white rubbing comound and a soft cloth.
