Anybody know who played steel on the original 1948 cut of this tune?

I don't know, but do you need a copy of this
song or do you already have one?

Ron:

I just looked at the book and discography included in the Bear Family boxed set of all of Tillman's recordings through 1981.

First version, 12/29/47, Nashville: no steel listed in credits

Second version, 12/10/57, Nashville, no steel listed in credits

Third version, 8/62, Dallas, Leon McAuliffe on steel

Fourth version (duet with Mickey Gilley), 1980/1981, Pasadena Tx, Herb Remington on steel

I haven't listened to the original in over 10 years, so can't say if there actually is steel on the 1947 version.

I bought a greatest hits and it says on the CD that he recorded it in 1948. There is steel on it and that is why I wanted to know. Maybe it is a later recording of the song that is on the CD.

You haven't heard that tune, until you hear it as an instrumental played by the "BIG E".

I have Buddy's version as well as Jeff Newman and Jimmy Day. I heard Randy Beavers play it in St Louis 2 years ago. I love the song so much I wanted to hear the vocal version. That is why i looked on Amazon and found the original by Floyd Tilman. I have been playing it for the last year or so. What a beautiful melody!....

For those of you who are Floyd Tillman fans, you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy of his final record "The Influence" that features some great players....Bobby Flores and our friend Dicky Overbey.

My favorite version (vocal) is Shelby Lynne with Paul jr doing the honors.....for my taste, it doesn't get any better.
