So I went to see the Rolling Stones the other night at Dodger stadium. I never was a HUGE fan but I own a couple classic albums(Let It Bleed, Sticky Figners). I felt like I really SHOULD see them before they(or I) die. Let me just say, "best rock-n-roll show ever!" They did nothing that was musically brilliant or new. But to fill a stadium, run around it for 2 hours, build a moveable stage, and get 40,000 to yell "yeah, yeah, yeah, woooo!" during Brown Sugar is totally amazing. My only complaint is that they let Keith sing. No!!!
Go see them if they come to your area, you'll have a blast.

Did Woody play steel?
Saw them in Austin, and I totally agree about the show (and Keith) |

Hey Arty,
No, they didn't have a steel this show. They did have a full horn section and backup singers etc. I would have loved to see steel tho!

You know, ol' Keith at times can actually sing if he puts his mind to it. He did a duet with George Jones on the "Bradley Barn Sessions" a few years ago and did a very good job IMO. At least I enjoyed it. He is however one ugly dude. I saw his mug on a cover shot of some magazine once and it had more wrinkles and blackheads than my old bulldog Amos..........JH in Va.

Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!!

I agree. Seeing them in '98 in Phoenix, notwithstanding the great music, showmanship, and physicality (especially of Charlie Watts, onstage for the duration),I couldn't stop thinking of the logistical/construction exercise of the event, and of the equipment/crew requirements necessary for shows to take place in multiple cities within days of each other.
Nate, you have it. Everyone--certainly everyone 55 or older--should see them once, anyway.[This message was edited by James Cann on 26 November 2006 at 07:16 AM.] |

James,
I don't it should be limited to those over 55, I think anyone who appreciates being entertained needs to see them!
I read somewhere that they have 2 identical stages and they leap frog them fro mcity to city because it takes 2-3 days to set it up! Wow, so cool

I saw them for $3.50 in a 500 seat theater during the mid 60s when Brian Jones was still with them and they were great then also.Haven't seen them again since then because every time I had the opportunity,I couldn't afford the tickets. |

The last time I saw them was in about '78 or so on the "Some Girls" tour for $10 a ticket. I bought my ticket at a department store. They put on a pretty good show, but they were loud as @#$%!!!
Also, Ron Wood played a PSG on "Girl With Faraway Eyes" or whatever it's called. He sucked out loud! Literally! |

FYI, this may be their last tour as we know them, cause ol' Charlie is not well with cancer.
He wanted to bail when Keef conked his noggin, but the glimmer twins begged him to stay til the tour resumed and ended.
They were to end the tour here in Honolulu, but it got switcheroo'd when Mick had vocal problems, and Oahu was the only date not re-schedualed.
They'll no doubt soldier on none the less in some aggregation, but who knows?
So catch 'em while you can! |

I was on a tour with the Stones in 1965. Our singer, Eden Kane (where is HE now!!!?), was 'top of the bill' (by virtue of a string of top five hits), and the Stones had only had a couple of records at that point, so we were closing the show.
That didn't last long! Two weeks into the tour they released their cover of 'Not Fade Away', and it went to #1 - that relegated us to closing the first half (good for us in the band, not so good for Eden!)
On the first night out, me and the other guitar player thought we'd check them out as there was a big 'buzz' about them. We stood there for about ten minutes, then retired to the nearest pub. It was too loud, and way out of tune. Awful!
Apparently they've improved....

I see they've now passed U2 as the top-grossing tour of '06. |

By November 28, 1965, the Stones were getting $5 per ticket in at the Arie Crown Theater in old McCormick Place in Chicago, capacity about 5000. I thought Keith Richard played badly and out of tune, Brian Jones sounded good, and nothing really mattered except Mick Jagger, who was the coolest thing we had ever seen. I remember a black girl running down the aisle screaming for Mick, then fainting when she got close to him. |

I agree, Nate. My comment spoke to the often heard "joke of the night" where people were looking at one another, asking, "Are you old enough to be here? You don't look it!"

I wouldn't doubt it. Talk about an exercise! I also remember seeing some 20 or more semi-rigs parked next to the stadium, all with the Stones' logo, and the center field sound booth must have filled at least 20' by 20', jam packed with gear, not to mention a 8 or 10 seat VIP section!

I heard Bonnie from outside but I got there too late to see her set. Damn LA traffic! But she came out and sang on Dead Flowers with the boys while Mick played acoustic. BTW, his harmonica playing on Midnight Rambler was outstanding! I respect those guys.
