Amazing.
He has his bass set up some way out of the ordinary. Something wrapped around the end of the neck and it might be tuned down. Can't tell.
There used to be a bass player here in the Atlanta area that played with a band called the "Outta Hand Band"--how about that for a play on words. He bumped the strings with the nub of his right arm and played very well. |

That is some amazing stuff. Steel players should remain current as well.
So....how do you thump a pedal steel? |

The string mute is to keep the open strings that are not being fretted from ringing. There is acutally a flip-up mute for guitar that you can buy. Probably one for bass too.
Notice that in that Vic Wooten clip, he's playing a 24+ fret bass. |

At the risk of hijacking my own thread, has anyone seen Gene Fields play his pedal steel which has one neck a fretted guitar neck which he plays by "thumping" as well as picking? |

Great to see this guys still being musical
inspite of his great impediment.
Victor typically plays Fodera basses.
I believe I played this one of his while he played my 6 one afternoon at the shop.
Great player and nice guy. |

thanks for the good stuff. I know I keep saying that on the music forum, but I really am thankful. As Zappa said about Elmore James, "He kept playing the same lick over and over, but I get the feeling he meant it." |

Some people are more motivated to play than others, aren't they? |
