Bought this one on eBay yesterday, and I'm a little curious about the story of these beautiful steels. I believe this one is a late '40s/early '50s model, and from the other photos in the add it looked as if it had the same string-through pickup as the Supros and Nationals.
I owned a '30s Oahu Tonemaster a while back, and it had a very smooth warm tone that I've missed ever since.

Thanks Ray,- do you (or anybody else) know some interesting 'gossip' about these guitars? Don't know much about the Oahus myself, but from what I've understood the Diana model was their top-of-the-line guitar?

I can't quite make out the second digit in the serial number (photo on eBay), but it is either from 1952 and 1953. Great looking guitar, Steinar!

Steinar,

I have one just like that but a little different color. They were made by Valco and the serial number should be listed on the web. Check mine out on my web site below.

Nice looking instrument and they have remarkable tone!

That would have the same pickup in it that your tonemaster had or a slight variation on it- so your in the ball park.

Jason,- this one seems to have a string-through ála Supro, while the old Tonemaster, which I believe was from the early 30s, had a pickup that looked like something right out of a Flinstone episode......
But it sure sounded sweet.

The Diana arrived today, and it's definitely a string-through pickup, exactly like the ones used by Supro and some Nationals.
So in a way there's a bit of a conflict between the way it looks and sounds,- the looks are 'warm' but the sound is quite aggressive with lots of trebly bite. Don't know what to think of that yet......
