Thanks for posting that,Kenny. That's some beautiful steel from John. I could not help but notice that the beginning of John's break was the very same one that Paul Franklin used on Marty Stewart's version of "This one's gonna hurt you". Anyone else catch that?

Whoooops...Chubby, you are indeed correct. I just checked the CD sleeve notes and it is John Hughey who plays on that tune. Paul is the steel player on all the other tracks. Thanks for correcting me.

I was flat "knocked out" when I heard Ralph Emery play this song on WSM in 1971. I believe that recording is Conway's best work ever. Also Johns' intro and break are incredibly tasty and cool, in fact maybe my "all time" favorite as far as ballads are concerned. And BTW, Harry Comptons tenor vocal harmony on the "hook" on the original Decca recording was incredible also! Country Music at its absolute BEST!

There's no steel, but this original version of Conway doing It's Only Make Believe shows you why it was a number 1 hit in 1958: =http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uvVym9CI9U&mode=related&search=

And both Conway and the steel on this version of Last Date really tear me up: =http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YOr07wDSvA&mode=related&search=
Is this John Hughey too?
