I have some young people who come out to hear "REAL" Country Music, and I let them sit in with us. Sometimes they play good, and sometimes they have a little trouble getting things exactly right, but, the main thing is they are wanting to learn the good old stuff, and learn it right. Where else can they learn if not from us old fa*ts who give them a chance. I have never been "Embarrassed" by them, or their playing. I simply explain to them to not be offended if I don't offer them a peice of music, which I think is "Way over their heads". These young folks are gracious, and very polite, and I think they deserve a chance. God bless them for wanting to learn to play "The Other Woman", and "Frauline". |

Hey Chuck, I'd say your a heck of a guy to let'em set in like that. Whether you know it or not and it sounds like you do you are starting some of those youngsters on a lifetime of playing some wonderful country music.
Some of those kids will continue to play and love country music and help keep it alive for years to come.
It takes a special kind to put up with all of their flaws and young ideas that probably don't fit in with the country music they are just maybe hearing for the 1st time.
Keep up the good work man it's refreshing to hear that there are still folks out there promoting country music to the musicians of tomorrow!

Tony Prior is a great one for this---His band is full of young guys who can burn a Brad Paisley tune---And then cover Ray Price equally as well. I think it's neat that a guy as old as Tony is able to remember that many tunes, let alone be willing to play 'em! |

If you don't plant any seeds, how will you someday have trees in the country? Keep planting those country seeds! |

Well, I guess it's pretty clear that you weren't the guy on Broadway in Nashville laughing at the folks sitting in with the band... |

Chuck
I'm sure that folks are going to figure
out the young'ns like " REAL COUNTRY MUSIC "
Yesterday we played the street market in
Port Angeles , the young folks that made a
point to come up and tell us they like it , is
proof positive . There was a 20 something
wanted to know all about my Fender SM ,
he even wrote it all down on a scrap of
paper . Maybe we'll have another Steeler
in him .
Way to go Chuck !

I'm a youngun and I spent the
evening listening to pre-Crazy Arms Ray Price.
I expect to be playing some with
a 10 year old Thai bass player shortly.
Keep up passing on the legacy. |

Chuck as you know I'm not a youngster, 46 years of age, but at the steel now for two years, and it's guy like you that allow guys like us a chance. From one of the guys that are starting out, you are making a difference in not only our playing, but the kind of music we play.
I truly believe that giving the newbies a chance at getting on the stage, gives them not only a chance to come up, but also gives us the confidence to play better too.
Chuck, thank you, thank you, thank you your a musicians musician and a great guy to boot. Keep up the great work and the great music you play. |

Thanks, Everyone for believing in our young folks to carry on the "Old School Ways".
Last night a couple of the good young'uns came out and did a fine job. I am impressed with their attitude, and willingness to learn. They didn't leave any trash on the stage, or get in the way at all!
A Newbie Steel player, Wade Branch, is comming along so well, and a young singer, Landon Dod, did an excellent job.
I can tell that each of these young folks have the desire, heart, and abilities to go on, and accomplish their goals. You know what they want? They want to sound good at the old stuff. They want to learn the good old songs. 4/4 Shuffles, and Western Swing, being a priority. I love it when they come out. It helps me believe that our good ole stuff will not dry up and blow away, no matter what the "Suits" in ________________
(insert you favorite name for it here) think.
I have the band on (most) Friday nights at the Stagecoach Ballroom in Fort Worth from 8:00pm to Midnight, and that is the only band where I have the say-so. (I play in 9 area country bands) This is not to say we're going to have a huge jam session every Friday night, but if a young person wants to pick with an "Old School" band, come out and introduce your self to me, and proove to me that you have the dedication, and desire to carry on the tradition. I will NOT be there July 7 2006,or Aug. 18th, or Oct. ? (second weekend - Ruidoso) Lets help the right folks find their way in our fading footsteps. |
