I picked up a new CD yesterday with Lloyd Maines playing steel and mandolin although sparsely. It's called "Taking The Long Way". Produced by Rick Rubin.

Not very country - more pop/alt. country.
Very well produced and recorded.
Lots of dynamics - some soft songs, some loud.
Lots of acoustic instruments including one that has a round body that looks like a snare drum with 5 strings.
Great harmonies.
Well crafted songs.
Highly recommended.
