Does anyone know what kind of guitar was used to play the lead in this old "60's tune?
The recording has the "purest" guitar notes of any I have ever heard. Sounds I've only really ever heard elswhere by Chet Atkins.
TIA.

According to this link, the album was recorded in England with "anonymous" players. When the song became a huge hit, they were forced to put a band together to tour and Mick Wilsher was picked to play guitar. So, hard to say which guitar was played on the track.

I've heard that the "anonymous" players were really the Bonzo Dog Band, so the guitarist might have been Neil Innes, who later did a lot of the music for Monty Python's Flying Circus. There's lots of web stuff on the Bonzos. They didn't form the touring band, because they didn't want to do only trad jazz and novelties. The singer (on the record) sounds like it might have been Viv Stanshall.

I heard that this song was actually named for a small church in north Tulsa where they had a lot of shotgun weddings. LOLOLOL

I remember seeing them on TV back then and one of the guys on stage was just sitting in a bath tub smoking a cigarette!! I wonder if he had to come to rehearsals.

If it was Bonzo Dog, Roger Rettig should know... he and Neil are friends and played together in those days.
