Anybody have one for 6-string? A guy I play with uses one and sounded great. Seems the lower wattage would let you heat up the power tubes a little more than one with 2 6l6s.

| I use a Peavey Classic 30 in a Christian Youth band that I lead. I also have a Peavey 12" extension speaker/cabinet that I use with it when we play for concerts. And you are right...when those tubes heat up the sound is awsome! Another guitar player is using a Fender Hotrod Deville (tube) and can't believe the sound coming from those 30 watts. |

I have one and use extension cabs, Classic 410 and 115, if needed depending on the venue. By itself, it is awesome. I wouldn't play a Zum, Emmons, or Sho-Bud style guitar through it, but I play Fender Tele, Strat, Stringmaster, 400 Pedal, and a Ric B-7 through mine. Light weight and incredibly loud for 30 watts. Reverb is much sweeter and boing-y-eer than their 400 series amps with regeneration.  I think Peavey must de-rate the wattage like Chrysler used to de-rate the Hemis to make NASCAR restrictions. Add a Dan-echo delay pedal, and it's tweed hillbilly heaven  ....well, pseudo-tweed.

| I used one in a band situation (overdriven, of course), and when I hit the mid boost switch the amp was so loud it left the other guitarist's silver face Fender Twin in the dust. |

great little amp..
"three 12AX7 preamp tubes, four EL84 power amp tubes"...
I feel the advantage of these amps over the Fender Hot Rod series, and I DO think that is main competitor in this market.......
Is the flexibility over the gain..The PV Classics have an additional front end gain control which the Fender HR series does not.
I have had a Fender HR Deluxe, basically the same as the Classic 30 and now have the HR Deville..pretty much the same as the Classic 50...
I find myself chasing the Peavey Classic sound rather than the other way around...
I'm thinking it's related to the EL84's...
who woulda thunk that ?
But don't get me wrong..both the HR Deville and the HR Deluxe KICK butt big time ....
These series of amps from PV and Fender..are really great values for the bandstand players...and will not drain you of all your financial resources. |
