This is a great Hawaiian CD by a leading artist/singer/musician of the islands. In a recent talk tape from Jerry this past week he said he ran into Gary Aiko the day he recorded the tape and Gary gave him a copy of the recently released CD which they recorded as an album in 1981. It is a must have CD by anyone who loves Hawaiian music. Gary picks up where Alfred Apaka left off with his rich baritone voice. Benny Kalama plays ukulele, the recently departed Sonny Kamahele on guitar, Norman Isaac on bass and Jerry on steel guitar. Jerry plays a frypan on this one and is on every song. After I heard the two songs Jerry included on the tape I just had to have it. After all you can’t have too much good Hawaiian music I say. So I went hunting for it on the internet and found it on mele.com.
Short samples of each song are on mele.com. I received the CD today have played it several times already and it is playing as I type this. Just a wonderful sample of the great music of the islands. Give it a listen you won’t be sorry you did. Here is the play list

Na Lei O Hawai’i. The Song of the Islands

Sand

A He Nani Na’ihau.

Ka Kali Nei Au The wedding Song sung with his mother Genoa Keawe.

Kamehameha Waltz

A Royal Hawaiian Sunset

Pua ‘Oliana

Pilina Mau Sung in both Hawaiian and English. This is the well know "Release Me" in English.

Lovely Hula Girl

Mai Poina ‘Oe Ia’u. In English means Don’t Forget Me and is the title of the CD.

Jack, thanks for posting this. I would have never known Jerry was on this CD had you not said. I gave it a listen at mele, and I too must have this CD. Here's the link:

Royal Hawaiian Sunset and Lovely Hula Girl are worth the price of admission by themselves. The rest of the songs are a bonus!

Royal Hawaiian Sunset is diatonic bliss!!

Gary has one of the finest voices ever. He, Alfred Apaka, and Sonny are all in a league of their own.

This has always been one of my favorite CDs. I hope Gary will make another one soon.
