What a beautiful singer/piano player! If a guy(or girl) could play C6th the way he plays piano, what a trip that would be! I became aware of him when I heard him On CKUA radio. I can hear now where Randy Neuman gets his singing style. Does anyone on the forum like his performing as much as I do. |

Andy - Absolutely! Charles Brown is a unique stylist both on the piano and as a vocalist. I like his solo and trio stuff especially because his piano playing is so great. And you may be right about where Randy Newman got some of his singing style.
And, it's that time of year, so we'll all get to hear Merry Christmas Baby any day now.

Is this the same Charles Brown who cut an album with Eva Cassidy in the early 90s? I really love that one. |

"The Other Side--Chuck Brown and Eva Cassidy". Chuck-- not the same guy-- was one of the founders of "go-go", percussion- and chant-heavy funk/groove music popular in the D.C. area. A very versatile musician and a fan of Eva's...It was an album of standards/covers (thus for Chuck "the other side").
They mostly sang duets on that, but Eva got maybe 3 tracks to herself, including "Over the Rainbow". That was the recording that got her all-too-brief career rolling. For many, me included, she was/is the new gold standard for female vocals. Listen to "Live at Blues Alley" and "Songbird".
No hijack intended...Charles Brown is great too! --Steve
