Check these two guitars out!! I designed them with the young luthier Ville Tyyster and he did a knock-out job with building them, don`t you think. Both of them have since been fitted with Lollar Chicago Steel pick ups, which, like some of you know are fantastic. The gtrs are constructed like a cross between a Les Paul and a 335,semi-hollow mahogany body with a maple or flamed birch (the red one) top. The red one has a 25" scale, tuned to standard G dobro tuning, the natural is a 27" same tuning tuned down to C.Both guitars have piezo under saddle P/us with separate outputs.
There are also other goodies on Ville`s web site.

Nice looking guitars. They look very similar to the Bill Asher's guitars that were originally designed for and with guitarist Ben Harper, now known as the "Electro Hawaiian"

Bill,
I have an Asher and I have to admit that it did influence the design...
There are differences: the bodies are smaller and they are not carved from a solid block, they have a bent frame with separate top and back and a center block like a 335. Also the tone we went for is in the Cooder/Lindley area and I think we succeeded very well.I like to think of them as lap slide guitars as opposed to descendants of the hawaiian guitar.[This message was edited by Olli Haavisto on 03 February 2004 at 09:16 AM.] |

Beautiful work. Isn't a 27" scale a bit on the long side? |

Depends, Howard. Ry Cooder has a slide instrument that's as long as his basement. He plays it with a wine bottle. |

A few of you have e-mailed me about the guitars;pricing etc. Anyone interested can e-mail Ville Tyyster, the guy who built them directly at ville.tyyster@tyyster.com Thanks for your interest and nice comments!!!
