Well, this isn't going to strictly apply, since I'm talking about a '54, owned by Eldon Chamblin. He got it from Leo Fender (with an amp) as a gift, sold it to a friend of mine in Tulsa for $12,500, who later sold it to another collector there for $25K, who told my buddy he eventually sold it in Houston for $100K.
So if you hold on to it for four years....?
Still, something funny about the ad, like the guy doesn't know what he has. Seems either item could bring $3400. Don't know. |

If it's too good to be true...
The price is so good you can afford to purchase an airplane ticket and related travel expenses to pick it up in person.
That's the only way I'd consider it, and even then be prepared to check carefully to be sure it's not a copy. |

You do know that at guitar shows in the early 80's, a few different exhibitors had a very few, vintage Fenders and Gibsons, mostly really beat up? And, you do know that by the middle 90's a lot of exhibitors had racks full of vintage Fenders and Gibsons, most of which were near-mint because they had sat in their cases for 35 years under Grandpa's bed? And, you do know that there were quite a few factories set up in Japan and Taiwan in the late 60's and 70's with jigs and routers configured to churn out near-perfect copies of Fenders and Gibsons? And after the lawsuits settled, Ibanez et alia began making their own designs. I guess they just threw out all those old jigs, and started over...  |

David is correct... MANY of the "vintage pieces you see today are well built forgeries.. I go into vintage shops today, and there are RACKS of ""original"" Fenders and Gibsons from the 50's and 60's some in beautiful cond... WHERE were these guitars 20 or even 15 years ago before this out of control "vintage" craze???

| Actually, Bob, if you do a little research, you'll find that Strats were going for just as much, if not MORE, back in the 80's, as they are now. Especially the "custom" colors. Two pieces of wood screwed together... |

well it looks pretty clean to me from what I can tell.
Not to sure about that case, the handle looks brand new...
You would have to see the guitar before a purchase ..or at least see a dozen or more close up photo's..the hardware, the electronics, the dates on the body and neck etc...
the amp appears to be the correct vintage ..but from a small photo it is near impossible to evaluate this deal..
Certainly $3400 makes you take a look...
I just bought another brand new 50's Classic Telecaster , 2 tone Sunburst..for $360..from a guy in NY...thats more my speed....actually that IS my speed..
$3400..for a 58..pretty inviting though...
