I have to preface this yarn by saying that I'm NOT a professional musician...I play in Bluegrass and "classic rock" bands, and gig about twice or three times a month locally...I'm a wannabe steel player but my main axes are guitar and electric bass. Buddy and I went to high school together and played in various bands, but then I stopped performing music while he persevered, paying serious dues and playing with all sorts of folks on his way to becoming the outstanding singer/songwiter/producer he is today...anyway, I got a phone call from Buddy last week saying he was opening for Mary Chapin Carpenter for two shows on Friday and Saturday, and his regular bass player wasn't available, and did I want the gig? He then told me that he wanted me to play upright bass, and I had to learn backing vocals for about 7 or 8 of his songs...oh, and it would just be the two of us, no band. Well, I "crammed" for hours, learning the songs and trying to get my ragged upright chops together enough so as not to be an embarrassment...we ran over the material briefly before the first show, and then just went on and did it...this was after not having played together for more than 30 years. I guess things went well enough for both shows, and what I had expected to be a boring weekend turned into anything but. I just wanted to share this with you folks, and to give a shout out to Buddy, thanking him for offering this opportunity to an old friend...he is a class act, in every way.

Buddy Miller is my favorite guitarist, flat out. What an honor, as well as a great time! I have seen him 5 or 6 times and he always blows me away.

Very cool, Jeremy. I've only seen Buddy on TV a couple of times--two different Emmylou shows. What an artist.
Nice job pulling it together and pulling it off!

Cool indeed. You must have proved yourself a long time ago for him to hit you up like that. Wish I had been there, and hope he and you make it to Oahu for a gig someday.

I'm a fan of anybody that plays a Magnatone Mark V, AND Noble guitars!
And Buddy sure can play 'em.

Emmy Lou's Spyboy concert video is a must for BM fans.
