In the movie HTM, starring Clint Eastwood,
there was the theme song [I guess].
It's a great song with great lyrics.
Did Marty Robbins write this? Did Marty Robbins record it? [Marty had a cameo in the movie and sang some of the song]
Seems to be some confusion as to the actual title.[with me, anyway]
I know the old one, "I'm A Honky Tonk Man".
That's not it.
Is it, "Honky Tonk Man"? Is it, "Wrap Your Arms Around This Honky Tonk Man? What is the title?
I did a Marty Robbins search and one site only showed him doing "Honky Tonk Man". There was no sample audio.
The site said HTM could be found on MR's albums: "I Love Country" and "Some Memories Just Won't Die". Neither album was listed on Amazon. Amazon had plenty of MR cds, tho, and I checked a few for audio samples, but came up empty.
Maybe someone can straighten me out, here.
Ilike the song, and would like to add it to my repertoire.

Chip,
It's Honkytonk Man. I don't know if Marty wrote it or not, but yes he did record it. The "Some memories just won't die" album sounds like the right time frame, so that's most likely the one that would have what you're looking for.
Edited to add, that according to this site http://www.martyrobbins.net/dscalbum.htm it was written by a Dewayne Blackwell.

The movie is roughly based on Hank William's personna, in part.[just my personal take]

Thank you Mike and Mitch. Good info, guys.
Johnny Gimble and a slew of other "Nashville
Cats" were also featured prominently in this Clint Eastwood classic.
But that's Clint...he knows what matters; where the heart lies. I love him. He is the best; just like the musicians/folks he showed us in this great flick.
Who of late, has portrayed Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys as the indomintable band that they were? To sing praise? And I know of the "Wheel", of course, but this great swing music has to be more promoted somehow.
"WHAT MAKES BOB HOLLER"? Give me a break! What a song!! I play this for friends who I think are hip and know-me-by-now.
But they just don't get it. They really don't get it. But, this is New England after
all; stodgy New England.
Oh darn. I'm drifting off. Please forgive, friends.

Well apparently, DeWayne Blackwell, who I never heard of until this post, is QUITE the songwriter.
Among his other gems are: "I'm Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home", "Friends In Low Places", and the all-time hit,
"Mr Blue" [by the Fleetwoods].

Hey Chip, Bob Wills and Western Swing in General is the rhythym that my heart beats, too bad you are so far up in Mass, my 2 year old daughter loves to dance to the Cotton-eyed Joe by the Wheel and in the Schools here in my town all the kids are dancing to The CEJ all the time. They love it. All things tend to come around again, as Duke said, good music is good music.
