I just got an intriguing request by email (from someone I do not know):
Quote:
I was wondering if you knew how to play the pedal steel guitar part in the song "Thats the Way" by Led Zeppelin. If you dont could you please learn it then post it on your site. I would really appericate that.
I can't honor the request myself, but maybe somebody else here could? Please respond here or email me if you think you might be able to cover this....

Why, Bob, you sound suspicious! It's not like he offered to pay for the service with a check for $90,000 and after you deduct your $100 fee, you just send him a bank check for the remainder...

I just don't get it. Why would somebody want to hear a steel part that is already recorded played by somebody else ? Why doesn't he just listen to his Zep record if he likes the steel part on it so much ?

Does he want tab so he can learn it ? I find that almost rediculous. Anybody that owns a steel and knows the part about how the notes get higher as you move the bar up the neck can play just about any steel part Jimmy Page played.

I'm not sure exactly what he is looking for. Maybe he wants to hear the steel part in isolation. I had a similar request from someone else regarding the steel work in Teach Your Children. Since I had already done a demo of TYC I made a special mix for that guy with my steel panned left and the rest of the tracks panned right. Not like my steeling was all that dead-on, but he was appreciative nonetheless.

Bill,
I remember that track. You did a great job with it.
