All you can do is try. I was #416 so there are a few people that think this needs to be done.

While they are at it a new sound man would be nice too.

I gleefully signed the petition. I am proud to be a part of any organization that will work to "restore" the Op'ry. When I saw some of the "new" performers on there, and they appeared like they had just crawled out of a dumpster after a two month booze/drug binge I realized St. Peter the Fisher was the wrong person to have in charge. The Grand Ole Op'ry is fast becoming the "Grand Ole Disgrace" thanks to Fisher and his crew of "henchpersons". There are few sacred traditions anymore that haven't been destroyed by the "new breed". Let's show the "new breed" that they are not as smart as they think they are. Sign the petition. Do it now! We can't let this fine American tradition go down the toilet. I've already written a letter to the Cracker Barrel people voicing my complaint. Viva la Grand Ole Op'ry-Michael Breid a.k.a. Arkansas Red-Ozark Troubadour, Eureka Springs, Arkansas

I used to think it would be the greatest to go see the show now it ain't worth the trip or the price of a ticket. Where has all the good country music gone. Up in Illinois I still try to keep it alive.

I'm # 446. I went to see the Opry in 2001, after having dreamed of seeing it for 40 years!!! I would have to say, It's not worth the price of admission anymore. And it's a shame the way their bringing down the Mother Church Of Country Music!!!

Me To Im in...I know we have to see the New people in country, but to hardly ever see the old ones is a big shame on the Opry. Or when was the last time you saw a instrumentalist featured on that stage.Sure would like the house band play sometimes.
just my 2 cents

My tenure at Opryland ended in 1984.I did not personaly know Pete Fisher but I did know Steve Buchanon. They were nothing more than pencil pushers in the accouting payroll dept. for Opryland. I'm still trying to figure out how that qualified them to manage the Opry when both of them are musically illiteret!....Oh wait a minute....can you say kissing a**!!): BTW I signed the petition. I may illiteret because I can't remember how to spell illeritet!!!

Want real good Country music? Try Norway and I'm not kidding..Great steel in the music and even tho you can pick out the influences their own styles come through. Egil Skjelnes is a forum member and with a great product and products to sell. Cato Sanden and Edel Elingsen are two good a entertainers as we have here in the US...I would love to see them appear on the Opry Any how now I'm off to sign the petition.

#484...Main requirement of a country music star...a really cute little BELLY BUTTON (which ain't all that bad )or a ROUGH & TOUGH ATTITUDE...hope this doesn't offend anybody but I think it's more of whatever will make money than music now. You can see almost the same thing on MTV. I know there will be some that will say just learn to live with it but I think it's time to go back in time. Just my thoughts.

I'm beginning to think that "Suck Ups" rule. It's obvious Fisher and Buchannan are class A suck ups and both need to be in a cubicle in downtown New Delhi, calling people to tell them about a mattress sale at Sears. Not running the Mother Church. Viva la Grand Ole Op'ry!

I'm sorry I disagree.
The Grand ole Opry has always depicted the presented the Country music of today and yesterday. Pete is trying to fill the room so the doors can stay open. Country music and it's popularity has always started with Radio; and what they are calling country music today that is played on the radio/charts; is what is selling billions and billions of records. If you are signing a petition for the Opry you see on TV; than you have not been to a Grand Ole Opry Show. Go to a Friday night or Saturday night Show; and sit there for 4-5 hours and listen/watch the show. You will see and hear; classic country music sang by living legends; blue grass; western swing; cowboy songs, Comedy and current country music on the charts today.
Remember; Pete has a family too, just like you and me and he is doing everything he can to keep the doors open and the opry staff working, and if it takes filling the room with folks that buy billion dollars worth of records from artist that are currently on the charts> Smart move.
If you want the hall to be filled with classic country music that you and I love; then have that music on the charts from 1 to 25. You and I both know that will not happen; as real country music has never been a billion dollar industry. Petition against the creators of this; not the messenger.
Sorry Smiley; I love ya like a Brother; but if we remove; say, Pete Fisher; and replace him with someone that brings in nothing but classic country music all night long and it's not what folks are hearing on the radio and spending a billion dollars on in hopes of seeing them live at the Grand Ole Opry> than the doors shut and hundreds of people are out of work> including our good friend Tommy White.

The Opry problems are much deeper than the current Opry management team. It goes back to the corporate owner. But, I haven't been a supporter of the current Opry management since they took over and kicked out Marty Martel because they couldn't take his heat.

"Eye candy" wannabe's do not equate to "country" music artists, just as "rag tag" dressed back up band musicians do not project a professional stage image (note, I didn't say anything about their musicianship).
