I visited Mike Nihen of Stringpull Guitars in Fairfax, Va. yesterday to check out his operation and see about getting a P/W style B-bender installed in my Tele. While there I saw a couple of the "Nashville West" Teles that Mike makes and let me tell you, they are great. Mike makes a reproduction of the famous guitar Clarence played which is now owned by Marty Stewart. They have that extra wide body, the long throw B-Bender (like Clarence's) Velvet Hammer pickups, the Keith/Scruggs tuners on strings 1 & 6, and have been aged to look like old guitars. I asked him how he aged the guitars but he said it was a trade secret. I left my main Tele with Mike to go over and install the B-Bender unit and I can't hardly wait to get it back. This guy's got a lot of talent in this field so check him out if you can. He's at www.stringpull.com He also does other guitars than the CW Tele. While there he let me play a replica of a Fender Custom Shop Tele they made for Carl Perkins. It was a Blue sparkle Tele with an ebony fretboard which had beautiful inlay. The guitar had a Bisby vibrato but the bridge was different than most Tele's with Bigsbys. It had the old style 3-saddle brass bridge pieces. All in all, it was a fun visit with a very nice guy and a talented musician, repairman, & guitar builder.....JH in Va.
