Last night I did a pickup gig with a really nice little band. In the audience was a student musician who follows us around, and is always very generous with his praise for this group of musicians. Last night when we took a break, he came up to us with a big smile on his face, and said:
"You guys knock me out. You're so professional... For me, watching you guys play is like watching a master cabinetmaker use his chainsaw !"
We laughed until the next set over that one.
-John
and now, back to the woods...

We had a club owner we worked for who was a mafioso type. He told us one night--"you guys are good, but you need to put your notes closer together"---????????
I was doing a jingle session one day and one of the suits in the control room asked me to please make my guitar sound like an alligator!!!
And then there is the famous Dave Brubek book which was titled after a question asked him by a stewardess when she found out he was the leader of the Dave Brubek Quartet--"how many people in your quartet?" |

One of my buddies, on hearing a singer slightly flat, said, "He lak to have sung that note."
Translation for non-Southerners, "He almost sang that note."
From last Friday's gig: "Can you play 'The Way You Look Tonight' by Eric Clapton?"[This message was edited by Rick McDuffie on 18 February 2005 at 08:07 AM.] |

I know the feeling. I remember several years ago, I had been playing the steel about a year. I just finished playing a song, and a young fella walked up and asked what it was. I told him it was a pedal steel, and then he asked "Can you play it?" Ouch! ![](http://steelguitarforum.com/eek.gif) [This message was edited by Lem Smith on 18 February 2005 at 12:37 PM.] |

"I know you guys are trying."
"Do you play any country music in French...."
"I would rather hear the Hoky Poky.... ""(AUUGHHH!)
"I know it's a wedding, but can you play D.i.V.O.R.C.E."
" I am a guitar student, and wonder if you guys have ever been to a teacher..." ( ouch)
"Did someone write this music?
"Wow this is great, what kind of music is it..."
And after stepping off the stage after a set while still holding a bass :
"Are you a musician?" (from a person just lucky enough to live the night...)
