I have heard on this forum that there isn't enough steel guitar in contemporary music. I listen to XM exclusively and I hear a lot of steel in contemporay music. One of my favorite stations is XM50 (The Loft)and XM76 and I hear a lot of steel throughout the day as well as Dobro. A lot of it is in the background but it's there. So steel is alive and well is music today.

For those of you who haven't experienced XM satelite radio all I can tell you is once I listened to XM I can't listen to regular radio anymore.

Bill Mack on XM CH171? Awesome! I usually listen to XM CH10 to XM CH16.... all country (one bluegrass) and you can't flip through those channels without hearing a steel guitar. Also kind of interesting is XM Cafe(contemporary, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow etc.) and XM Music Lab (progrock)and the best part of XM Radio is NO COMMERCIALS!!! Highly recommended.

Although I don't yet subscribe, we do have XM in the band van for road trips. Last Train Home is also played pretty frequently on X-country and occasionally the bluegrass station.
I also got to go to their incredible home base studios in DC (like walking onto the bridge of a starship) to record the steel guitar "audio logo" snippets that get played on the various country stations on XM.

It's pretty cool to be riding along and hear oneself on the satellite radio

But aside from the selfcentered appeal, they do have a great selection of stuff to choose from...
