Aloha all,

Here's another stab at me recording myself. I'm playing the King Benny Nawahi and his Island Lord's tune "Malahini". I got this song off of a Harlequin Hawaiian reissue.

This time I played all the instruments myself, no Band In A Box. I patched the instruments directly into the ProTools Mbox except for the uke, which I mic'ed. I recorded my Bakelite Rick through the amplifier simulator "Amplitube". I'm not completely happy with the steel tone, but family considerations kept me from cranking a live amp for recording.

I think it sounds great! Nice playin'. What were your settings on Amplitube? I haven't had near as much luck with it as you have.

John,

I am using one of the factory default settings, the "Crystal Clean" setting with a bit more reverb added.

I also have the full version of Amplitube, not the LE version that comes bundled with ProTools.

We are blessed that many of the Hawaiian
composers of yesteryear were way ahead of
their time musically. From what source was
their inspiration derived ?

Even now, after someone like you has applied
a unique contemporary color to this song, it
springs forth with new vigor.

Gerald, Thank you for sharing this with us.

Nice work Gerald! King Benny is one of my favorite players of old. And what a life story.
