I'm traveling over New Year's to Mexico City to meet the girlfriends's family for the first time.
I would love to pick up a reasonable Weissenborn copy while in Mexico City and save the 500-750% markup (I'm kidding but you get the point) of Mexican copies like the Superior Weisssenborn.
I figure that if anyone would know where to pick up a Weissenborn copy in Mexico City, it would be on this fine forum.

Good luck. My experience in Mexico City is that prices (can't speak about guitars specifically) are as high or higher in Mexico City than in the US. You would think the tourist areas would be higher but places like Puerta Villarta actually had better prices than Mexico City. Go figure. Good luck though, maybe you will get a deal. |

To buy a guitar you should go to Paracho.
This is where the majority of guitars made in Mexico are made. I believe the Superiors are made there, but could be wrong. You'd need to ask George at Berkeley Music.
I'm not sure exactly where Paracho is either, having never been there. |

Paracho is in Michoacan, "about a six-hour bus ride west of Mexico City." What a great opportunity for an adventure! |

Thanks all!
Disheartening to hear about prices in Mexico City proper. I guess globalization has helped some folks; sadly, not my search for a "reasonably priced" (an oxymoron I'm starting to realize) weissenborn copy.
I'll see if I can get over to Paracho during the week and "steal" one of those Superiors right at the factory. |
