Anita (Grilli) Kerr has finally developed a website, and it is well worth a visit: www.anitakerr.com She has blazed a great musical trail from Memphis----Nashville---Hollywood---and now Europe-- in Switzerland where she now resides. She will have more albums for sale later. Now she has 4 of the Grammys. She and the famous Anita Kerr Simgers initiated backup singing in Nashville back in the late 40's. |

Thanks for the Anita Kerr info'. From the first time I heard her distinct voice on one of Red Foley's old, old gospel tunes, I was hooked. She and her group did a number of different sessions with Jerry Byrd's steel guitar. Her voice was so unique, it was in a class of its own; like, Bob Nolan and the Sons of the Pioneers.
Thanx for sharing this with us. |

To this day,the A.K.S. has to be my very favorite back-up,& lead vocal group. I have several of their albums that I've owned since the 60's. To the best of my knowledge, the "A.K.S." (known as the "Anita Kerr Quartette" way back when...) was the first group to record the song,"Forever", brought to prominence by Pete Drake's "talkin' steel guitar",& written by former studio bass player, turned millionaire,Buddy Killen. The group, back then, consisted of:
Anita Kerr - lead vocal
Dottie Dillard - alto
Gil Wright - tenor
Louis Nunley - baritone
I own 3 albums by the A.K.S.,& 4 by the "Living Voices",(aka "A.K.S.") on RCA Camden,a,then,"budget" label owned by RCA Victor.
IMHO,their success & sound,to this day,is unequalled.
