I just picked the new Chet Atkins Bear Family box set "Mr Guitar: the complete recordings 1955-1960" from my local record store. What a great package, 7 cd's and a beautiful 112 page hardcover book. Lot's of unreleased material and it even includes possibly the first existing recordings of Chet; two radio station cuts from the mid 40's. The rare Sesac recordings are also included. Rich Kienzle did a great job with the book and there's a really interesting article included from a -66 Radio Electronics magazine. Now, ya'll go and write Santa!!

Is any of this material doubled from the other Bear Family Chet box, or is it all newly compiled?

It is a new compilation - Bear Family usually puts out several box sets on artists to cover their career chronologically - if there is too much material for one set (I think they have at least 6 ET boxes and 6 or seven Hank Snow box sets). They always do a great job! Not cheap but you get your money's worth!

Kind Regards, Walter

Yes, Bill it's all new. There are some interesting cuts there; I haven't gone through all of it yet, but one thing I immediately regognized. Some cuts from the Workshop-album are different versions than on the original album, Marie and Whispering for instance. Then there are alternative versions for songs on the Teensville-album too. And much, much more.
