....while standing in line, only there was so much noise I could hardly hear it. It was a version of 'Home in San Antone', with a non-pedal solo followed immediately by a wonderful guitar solo - really fluid, with a great arch-top tone.

The staff couldn't tell me who it was; I know there's not much to go on here, but does anyone know who I might have been listening to? I couldn't find the song on any of the CDs on the sale rack - who had the hit with this tune?

Thanks.

Just curious....what's the chances of it being Tom Morrell/Time Warp Top Hands?

I don't know - but who had a hit with this song years and years ago? The guitar-player had that Leon Rhodes-like feel, and he knocked me out! 'CB' seem to carry a lot of old re-releases, and they did tell me the music they were playing came from head-office. I'm intrigued!

I heard some great classic country at the Cracker Barrel in Tyler a week ago. I ate breakfast there two mornings in a row and both times heard some Jim Reeves with my dad on the steel. Also heard some classic Hank Williams with Don Helms on that old Gibson console of his. Awesome stuff and whoever picks their morning music deserves a raise!

Cracker Barrel sells some CD's with great recordings. Maybe it was for sell in the gift shop.

Like Mike was saying they have a lot of cd's for sale in the store. This has been discussed here on the forum before. This is a list of cd's on their website: http://shop.crackerbarrel.com/online/shopping/Category.asp?cat%5Fid=34&page%5Fnum=1&mscssid=4VAACU2QDU6W8P14L1KDE6CSPH7V7QS4

I thought of that, but couldn't find the title on any of the CDs for sale in the shop.

If I had, I'd have bought it just for the guitar-solo!

The Cracker Barrell stores around Nashville use the satellite radio system (XM or Sirius) and they choose the "older traditional country music" like Hanks Place or something. I am not sure if all Cracker Barrels use that service or not. One day I was in there and heard this great old country mucis and asked them where the music was coming from and they told me they subscribe to the satellite service.

I stopped at a Cracker Barrel last month, somewhere in Illinois. While having lunch I was subjected to almost an hour of traditional country. ET, Faron, Carl Smith, Bob Wills, Johnny Cash and others. I didn't want to leave! Bet your boots I'll stop at the next one just to see if it happens again!
