AJM, I've wondered that for a long time, but I'm pretty sure Neil was born in Canada, and Rusty in California, but I could be wrong. JimP

Mr. Peters, thank you for your serious reply. I recently heard this somewhere else for the first time ever, and was just curious. If anyone would know a little about Rusty Young, someone on this forum would.

I figured that the topic title itself was self explanatory, so I didn't feel the need to post any more than that.

My kid works with me in the same company. In the beginning they thought he was a Chinese fellow when I asked if anyone had seen Young Lang.

Norman Russell "Rusty" Young was born and raised in Colorado. Got his first steel guitar at the age of 7 and began teaching at 14.*

The sarcassm was just to put this old canard back to bed.
This rumor has been floating around for 30 year. Like an urban legend.
Lester Young is no relation either.

neil Young, Rusty Young, lester Young, and Loretta young (female vocals) were the original members of the Young Rascals. I think they bought their outfits in Denmark, or somewhere.

So, what Dylan actually wrote was "May you stay forever, Young"?

Sorry, I just couldn't resist joining this thread ...

And no -- Neil and Rusty are not related to each other.

(Or me. I have an uncle named Robert Young, but no aunt named Loretta. And my brother Alan was known as "Mighty Joe" back in the days when he used to smash tavern ashtrays with his fist. Actually, Carl Jung is a distant relative, but who cares? This isn't a thread about the Swiss steeler Rusty Jung.)

Artie, check out Rusty's web site.

Neil's official biography, "Shakey", is a great read. No mention of Rusty in it. I don't think they're related.

Funny you mention that retcop88 !! Ben Keith used to work for Faron as well. I think that is where he started; cross my heart and hope to die!! I worked a few gigs with them in Europe in the 60s...

Didn't Rusty and Neil used to perform together as "The Young Rascals"?
