Sometine in the early to mid 50s, Billy Gray had a son titled "The Crazy Mixed Up Song". I heard it on the Far East Network at Iwakuni Japan. I was going to learn it but the band leader didn't like it. The only words I remember are:
"East is West and North is South and Two and Three make Green
Groundhog Day is on its Way Here Comes The Fireball Mail".Thanks. |

Perry: I wish I could help with your question but I cannot. I also happened to mention FEN Kyushu (It may well have been Iwakuni...) in a thread in Extended Family 18 Sept 2004. It was Titled: From Korea 1952 and since you were there around that time, you may find it interesting.

Paul. That probably was Kyushu. I think in 52-3 FEN was in Iwakuni- kyushu and Yokosuka. From Jan 53 to Jul 55 I was in SUBPAC on a Sub Rescue ship, (USS Florikan, ASR9). I can relate, in a way, to your story. There was a Japanese steel player in a band in Yokosuka that would have me set in with them. I got to practice on a lot of Hank Williams song. But he taught me a lot. Mainly how to be patient with fiddle players. |
