I had the good fortune to be given a Gibson ElectraHarp. Please stop laughing.... I quickly decided that there was no earthly reason why I should try to tune the 4 pedals, and learn how to negotiate them, thereby negating all the effort I've put into E9 pedal steel. But it's kind of a cool looking old steel, Michigan flamed maple and those funky plastic covers. So I strung it with the common 8 string tuning with the F on the bottom, and I'm looking for some direction. b0b has a nice E9 primer on the Forum, and I wondered if the equivalent exists for this non-pedal tuning. Thanks! - Steve |

Which "common 8 string tuning" are you using? I have the Don Helms book from Scotty's Music, but it uses the E6/7 tuning which is (bass to treble):
B D E G# B C# E G# |

Bobbe Seymour uses that tuning in his non-pedal video series. |

Thanks , fellas- I'll check out those links and see where it leads me. Yes, Billy; that's the tuning I meant. I don't know what it's formally called, but it is "common" enough for me to have heard of it, at least. Thanks for the help. |

You could call it C6th or Fmai9th or C6th extended or C6th pedal steel tuning w/o strings 1 & 10. You could call it Fred, but that would just confuse the issue. |
