Johnny is one of our favorite pickers to hear when visiting Nashville. He often plays on Broadway at Roberts with the Don Kelly Band. To us, Roberts is usually the best place to be in Nashville because we just love that kind of live music. Johnny can really play and is a joy to hear. His Cd is great too. What a talent! |

I would venture to say that most of the TELE' bangers have been listening to and talking about Johnny for a while now.
He is in frequent conversation over on the Tele' boards..
Great talent..

We used to go to Roberts on Broadway to hear Redd Volkaert play before he moved to Texas with the same band Johnny plays with now. I can't think of Johnny without also thinking of Redd......I hear a lot of Redd's influence in Johnny's playing. Any of you ever heard Redd live? Unbelievable. Nothing beats hearing these knocked out tele players live and in a situation where they can really create and interact with the other musicians on stage. |

Johnny Hiland is one of the best musicians around. He plays many other instruments beside the guitar. I believe he plays about 18 altogether. He is a darn good drummer, and plays some brass instruments too. I know he won some type of an award for playing 5-string banjo when he was only around 12 yrs. old. He moved to Nashville when he was around 19 or 20 and I haven't seen much of him since. He used to come over and jam with me and I was overwhelmed by his playing........Carson |
