What happened to Bobby Thompson, the great banjo player? I haven't heard anything about him in a long time.

I had heard that he developed MS (or something like that) and had to stop playing. No idea if he is still in Nashville or went back to South Carolina.

It always irked me when I watched Hee Haw and Roy Clark was up front picking and grinning. In the background was a fabulous banjo picker in Bobby Thompson. Bobby was quiet and laid back and never tried to embarass Roy since everyone knows Bobby could pick circles around Roy Clark when it came to banjo playing. I hate to hear of his illness. He has also done a lot of recording and played on numerous hit songs.

Didn't Bobby play a D style Baldwin banjo? I never hear of those anymore either. Where'd they go? Haven't seen even an old used one.

You're right, Jerry.
Bobby played one and you never see them anymore.

I belive the builders formed the OME company, but then I lost track.

I knew someone that had a "D". It was a great banjo.

Wow this brings up a memory. When I was 8 years old back in 1969 Bobby was a judge at a music competition I played at in Chicago. I still have the sheet with his comments on the bottom!!
