| Absolutely, but I found the subject of most of his songs depressing. It was his niche, however, very successful. I wonder if the subject matter he performed every night had anything to do with his demise? |

I was able to play guitar for Mel a time before the death. This was as a pickup musician as we often did in Nville, for rent. I thought he had some great songs and was a great person. As the article said, Jim and Jean were great people and I thought the group of Prater and Street was a great combo. I had heard of Mel's demons, but was quite unaware till the incident. Plus listening to Lloyd seemed to be a part of Mel's voice.

I still have a casett of Mel Street singing all of his greatest hits. next to George Jones and Merle Haggard he was one of my favorite country singers. he just had that voice. His songs were a little trashy, but so was Conway Twitty's and a few more.
I play and listen to Country Gospel now, but every now and then I'll dig out Mel Street just to hear his voice and hear Loyd's great steel playin.
