ERIE, Pa. — Willie Nelson has canceled concerts for the next two
months to have surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome, a promoter said.

The 71-year-old country-western star, whose hits include "Whiskey
River" and "On the Road Again," was apparently in so much pain he
couldn't finish a show Saturday in Las Vegas.

"Willie Nelson will have surgery to relieve extreme pain caused by
carpal tunnel syndrome," Carlos Larraz, a promoter with National
Artists Corp, said Monday.

Nelson had ten concerts scheduled for the remainder of May and June,
including an appearance at the three-day Bonnaroo Music Festival in
Manchester, Tenn., beginning June 11.

I can't believe that Wille don't have a "Homeopathic Remedy" for his pain.

His Fourth of July party is scheduled at Billy Bob's this year, and I was planning on going. Hopefully he'll be recuperated by then.

I spoke with Poodie Locke (Willie's road mgr.) last night and asked him whassup w/4July? It turns out the 4th of July Picnic is not a Willie Nelson production, but rather is being produced and promoted by Rick Smith of Billy Bob's, and they hired Will (wow, now I'm sounding like Ben Dorcy ) to play the show. So the show will undoubtedly go on, Willie will most likely play, but not necessarily kick off the the show and play with 75% of the acts like he usually does at one of his parties.

Willie is scheduled to play July 3 with Hag somewhere in the Southwest, so he'd have to fly in to make the kickoff of the event.

I'll be there all weekend with Johnny B., 'cause there's some big wingding going on at Billy Bob's on Friday and Saturday as well. Another Troubadours Reunion is on hand for that show, with Lynn Owsley, Pete Mitchell, maybe Don Mills, and some other ex-Troubs.

Should be a freakin' great weekend in the Stockyards, Bubba!!

Hey Herb! "Lovey" (Ben Dorcy) has been known to refer to Willie as "Shorty". My guess is he's probably the only guy that can get away with that one. Maybe Poodie or Mamma Locke can, too....

Hope Willie's hands get to feelin' better soon.

Keep on pickin'!
