Does anyone know if the album called "The Ernest Tubb Story" is the one where ET re-recorded a bunch of his famous songs with his then-current line-up, and if Buddy Emmons plays steel on at least some of the album?I used to have this on 8-track (finally sold the car that had the 8-track player) and I'd like to find the LP but I can't remember if this is actually the album I'm looking for. Thanks everyone!

Not sure Buddy was on any cuts. I seem to recall Jimmy Crawford saying he was on "Blue Eyed Elaine" on a rerecording, not sure it was this album or not.

Is this the one you're talking about? All Music Guide doesn't go into the lineup, except to mention that the Anita Kerr Singers and the Jordanaires sing backup on some of the tracks.

I believe the one Jimmy Crawford was on was some of the ones produced in later years by Pete Drake. I believe the one you are speaking of did have Anita Kerr Singers and Jordanaires do some singing, as great as those two groups are Ernest Tubb did not need them ... The five boxes put out by Bear Family cds. Wonderful. Back to the Ernest Tubb Story there was some fine steel on that set, believe Buddy Emmons was one.

According to the discography in the back of Ronnie Pugh's biography of Ernest Tubb, Emmons was the steelman for all the sessions for this album.

David,
I actually found a "decent" component 8-track player that plugs into my home system but I appreciate the offer.I must have left that ET 8-track in the car, though,(along with my prized AC/DC Back in Black 8-track)--"finders keepers" rules apply!
Believe it or not, there is actually a DJ here in town who sets up at a local bar and plays nothing but 8-track tapes.Lawrence is kind of a roosting place for obsolete technology.Luddites unite!

If you REALLY WANT THE LIFE STORY of Ernest Tubb, you must get a copy of HOLLYWOOD BARN DANCE. This is the whole unabridged story of Tubb's life includes real musicians, some frantic car driving scenes, great music and what else could there be.
