I hope this isn't old news.I just found a Ray Price CD that is a re-release of his 1966 "Touch MY Heart" album and his 1964 "Burning Memories" album, two for the price of one.Buddy Emmons is on steel for all the tunes, except for one, where Walter Haines sat in for Buddy.
The album is Audium AUD-CD-8180, A 70200.
Audium is tied in with Koch/Sony.

Acc. to the session information Walter played steel on two songs "A Way To Free Myself" and "I've Still Got Room For One More Heartache") from the session on June 13, 1963.

Kind Regards, Walter

According to my album jacket, Walter only played on Make The World Go Away. This was because of Buddy's broken heel, I presume from the great balcony jumping incident. It is still a great album.

It's interesting that the session info for the complete session on June 13, 1963 lists Walter Haynes on Guitar (sic!), Buddy Emmons doesn't show up at all. Five songs were recorded:

Make The World Go Away
Let Me Talk To You (Twice)
A Way To Free Myself
I've Still Got Room For One More Heartache

Only two of the songs (the last two) have audible Steel on it, the other three are dominated by strings.

Maybe Walter or Buddy can shed some light on this?

I hope you other guys don't get bored by this hunt for details - Craig, you're right, it's a great album!

Kind Regards, Walter

Craig,

Sorry, I didn't mention that I took the information from the information contained in the impressive 8 CD Box from Bear Family Records. (This box, by the way, is a real keeper, it contains all Ray Price recordings from the very beginning of his career to Danny Boy in 1966 which marked a change in direction from Honky Tonk to more pop oriented music). They list all the sessions with exact date, location and musicians, really a great source of information!

The music, though, remains classic and timeless!

Kind Regards, Walter

Can you folks tell me if the "boxed set", be it 8 cd's or 10, has a copy of Ray Price's tune "I wish that I could fall in love today"? I've heard the tune on XM-13 and can't find it anywhere. If need be, I'll buy the boxed set to get it.

Thanks and regards.

Nope, it's not in the box set (I checked all 10 CDs, Jussi). Don't know where to find that song.

Thanks Walter... Guess I'll have to just plug the old XM radio into a tape recorder and record away until the tune happens. Anybody got 200,000 ft of 1/4 inch tape?

Thanks again.

Well now..I guess I'm gonna have to look through that box set; could have sworn that "I Wish That I could Fall In Love Today" was included! But it's been a long time since I've listened to all ten of the CDs.

Found It!!!
It's on Disc 6 of the Ray Price and the Cherokee Cowboys CD Set of 10, and "My Confession" is on Disk 7. Now if I can just get this thing past The Wife at $225.00 everything 'll be just fine. Thanks again for lookin' folks. I appreciate the help.

Ray: You're a step ahead of me; I just looked..and like you say..it's indeed there. I was almost sure that it was included in that box set. What I had forgotten about (and maybe someone here can shed some light on this) but the cut of that song on the box set has no harmoney vocal. I have also found this to be true of "Heartaches By The Numbers." Have never heard what the story behind that was.

Yep, the song indeed is there and I noticed the lack of the harmony vocals too. It could be something to do with the old stereo/mono transferred into modern digital stereo. I'm not qualified to explain it in technical terms, but I just recorded a Hank Snow song from an old LP to a cassette tape, and for some reason it recorded mono and everything else was on the tape except the vocal chorus group ( which was pretty annoying anyway ), so...
And this box set btw, is the Bible of E9

Thanks again y'all, and thanks for the E9th recommendation, 'cause darn the torpedos and full speed ahead I ordered the set last nite.

Someone was kind enough to give me a mp3 version of the tune. I've listened to it a dozen times this morning and it's still as nice the 12th time as the first. Probably wear the file out by tonite.

Ray,

Yu won't be disappointed! The set is really, like Jussi said, the bible of E9! If you listen to each song twelve times, get some drinks and snacks, you will be around the CD player for a solid week!

Have fun!

Kind Regards, Walter

Ray: You're probably gonna want to shoot me for thinking of this now. But I happened to remember that the song "I Wish I Could Fall In Love Today" also appears in a nice collection that "Timelife" put out on Ray Price a few years ago; it's complete with the harmoney vocals. Aw..but they're ttelling you right; the box set is a wonderful collection..and you'll get lots of tunes that aren't included in the timelife collection! However..if you're still interested in getting that one that "Timelife" (I don't remember the web address. But I feel certain that if you'll do a search on something like Google, you'll have no trouble finding it; it's a fairly good overview of Ray's work.

A couple of Ray Price albums were released in the late '60s with no steel at all. One of them was "Take Me As I Am", which had an "infamous" version of "Nightlife" with no steel at all, just voilins, brass, vibes, and of course, acoustic guitar. ("Quintessential Schmaltz", as I call it.)

At any rate, for those buying albums or CD re-releases, Ray's best albums (IMHO) are...

"Greatest Hits" Vol. 1 & 2
"Another Bridge To Burn"
"Touch My Heart"
"Nightlife" (Yes, this one has Buddy on "Nightlife"!)
"The Other Woman"
"Burning Memories"

All these albums (except GH Vol 1) feature Buddy playing...as only he can. I used to dream I could play like that. Matter of fact...I still do!

Thanks to Buddy (and Ray) for all these classics!

Can someone tell me who played the steel for Ray Price during the 1952-64 period of time? I know it's probably been repeated many times in the forum but I've missed it. The backup behind "Pride" has always amazed me.
