Any have one of these old Chorus units you're not using and could part with? Mine was stolen years ago, and I did buy a replacement off Ebay a few months back, but the thing has issues and I would rather find one that works well and sell of this project chorus.
The CE-1 is from the late '70's, greyish brown, with 2 buttons and an AC cord. Very lush sound. Does anyone know of a modern one that has the exact same chrous sound?

| Maybe a Boss CE-20. I've not tried one, but it's got a CE-1 setting on it. |

Hi John,
I just had a CE-2 modified by Robert Keeley.
His mod aims at recreating the CE-1. I had the "Speedy" mod which allows a much slower rate than stock as well as a much faster rate than stock. The improvement in fidelity after the mod was substantial!

The CE-1's are getting hard to find in good working order.....There's nothing that I have found in the newer models that I can really get as good a sound out of ...You can overdrive the CE-1 to get a really nice Robin Trower type tone out of it that you can't get from any other chorus unit .....I'll keep my eye's open , but I'm sure whatever I find won't go cheap...Jim

Jerry: I haven't tried the CE-20, I'm a little suspicious of any digital chorus, I had a Yamaha stompbox chorus after the CE-1 got stolen, but it was very harsh and brittle. Maybe I can find a local steeler that owns a CE-20 and try it out, don't feel like demoing one at Guitar Center!
James: my CE-1 cuts in and out, appears to be a bad hi/lo switch and possibly output jack. And it came with a very short AC cord, it was used on someone's pedal board. So I'd have to rectify those issues. Mike at Analogman, where I bought my BiComprossor, is quite a boutique gadget guy, and he gave me referrals to a couple of expert repair techs, I haven't followed through, again, just thinking might be simpler to find another one in better shape and sell this one off. But it is fixable, I'm sure of that, when the signal does work right, it still has that lush, lush sound I've been craving. If a minty one doesn't surface at a decent price, I'll just get this repaired, I guess.
Thomas: I'm wary of any "recreation" of a sound. I haven't even tried amp modeling effects, figure they aren't natural and surely not part of God's plan, ha!

John, I sold a CE-1 on ebay last week. You'll probably be money ahead to get your unit serviced. Those things are getting some pretty stupid prices,but I'm not complaining  . |

| Fix it,John!I fixed mine...the hi-lo switch was bad...I went to Radio Shack and bought one(they were 2 to a pack)and put it in.I'm the WORST solderer(?)who ever lived(I know because Red Rhodes told me)but I like to mess with stuff like that-you can do it!Be careful-I've been in the 400-volt club for 20 years... |

Steve, I know where my strengths are, and they AREN'T in soldering electronics together! I'll pull out the CE-1 I have, re-analyze it, probably just send it off to an expert one of these days. Thanks for the encouragement, though! First I'll get my ProFex tweaked by Ken Fox, that's more important than getting this old beauty revived.

| I would also send it to Ken if you are not well versed in soldering ....He can fix it in a snap since you are already dealing with him ....I haven't had any dealings with Ken, but he comes very highly reccomended from other's on the forum who's judgement I would trust .... Once you have it fixed, it's a pleasure to use, and you will then KNOW what you have as Ken will probably give you a total report on what kind of shape it's in ....Jim |
