I saw an advance copy of Andy Volk's new Steel Guitar (non-pedal) book, and it is absolutely top shelf- beautifully laid out (Andy is a graphics professional, and it shows!), tons of interviews and photographs, just a beautiful package all around. It'll be published by Centerstream, who did the Jerry Byrd book as well.

Andy is a great guy as well, we had a blast listening to various things in his collection.

I'd imagine it'll be available before too long, so everyone get your holiday wish lists ready!

As long as you don't make it "elderly Andy" , Rick

John, thanks for the kind plug. Fellow forumites, John is a wonderful musician. I heard first hand what he can do with a steel and standard guitar and he has tone and taste to burn. Buy his records - you'll be glad you did.

Yes, the book is finally here and I'm very proud of how well it came out. I've often thought that many books devoted to guitars needed to up the graphic design ante. I put much effort into that department and I sincerely hope people enjoy the book.

I'll shortly be offering signed copies at a discount off the list price via my website: www.volkmedia.com. Stay tuned!

Andy started his book long before I did mine.

Iam half way through and Andy's is out there.

I am waiting for casters to put on my book because its very heavy and cannot be handled
by one person. It takes a "lift team" to carry it. Good Luck Andy, I hope you sell a bunch.

I'm in your debt Jody, for that spectacular shot of Joaquin. By the way, I put you under the category of American Roots Music, but your music with Johnny could easily be its own category: New York- ethinic- pop-lounge-country-swing or some such moniker.

Looks really great, Andy. My heart picked up a little bit as I read the description (like holding a newly-acquired steel on your lap for the first time). I think it's perfect you included Greg Sardinha. I tried to copy everything he did when I converted from pedal to lap a number of years ago. I'll be getting a copy from your website when available. Keep us posted -- and congratulations.

I'll be dropping subtle hints to my wife (such as the web link) for Christmas. Any chance this would be available through the Forum?

Andy - Can't wait to see your book! It will be featured prominantly on my coffe table.

Jody - Check you e-mail. I'll try to get a picture for you. I do have a nice full page ad from a 1957 C&W magazine for the Fender 1000 which has a good picture. If you would like it for your book I'll be happy to donate it. Let me know.

Well I got a copy of Andy's book and I am just knocked out! My but is numb from sitting on the toilet (where else?) for hours just reading all the great interviews and drooling over the cool pictures. I'm stoked to be a part of it too. You know Andy could actually make a living doing this. Xmas is comming and I think if you add this book to your wish list, you will be in for a real treat.

I't's gonna take lots of expensive psychotherapy to erase THAT image, Loni. But (no pun intended) thanks for the plug!

NOTE TO EVERYONE WHO HAS ORDERED A BOOK:

The publisher has sent me a big order of books that I'm awaiting to receive. Media Mail is somewhat slow but the only economical solution. Please rest assured that I will sign and send out your books just as soon as I possibly can. I know how it is to feel like Ralphie in the movie "A Christmas Story" .... anxiously checking the mailbox every day for his Little Orphan Annie Decoder Ring.

Andy--

I knew your book would be really good, but it still exceeded my highest expectations. Great job! Your graphic design really makes this one sing.

Your passionate interest in diverse music and affinity for the instrument come shining through. Kudos for a job excellently done.

What's next?

Best regards,

Bob
