So, I see where Willie's got a new tune, knocking the war in Iraq and calling Pres. Bush a liar.
So eho's gonna be Toby Keith's NEXT duet partner??

Whether you agree with Willie or not, I think it took a lot of guts for him to do this in the wake of the reaction to the Dixie Chicks.

I wonder if there are any other country stars who feel the same way. If there are, I hope they will have the same courage of their convictions and say so.

I think Willie needs to quit smoking that wacky tobaccy and get his head screwed on straight again. I guess I don't need any more records by Willie. His first songs were always his best anyway.

What Ever Happened To Peace On Earth -Willie Nelson
quote:

There's so many things going on in the world
Babies dying
Mothers crying
How much oil is one human life worth
And what ever happened to peace on earth

We believe everything that they tell us
They're gonna' kill us
So we gotta' kill them first
But I remember a commandment
Thou shall not kill
How much is that soldier's life worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

(Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

So I guess it's just
Do unto others before they do it to you
Let's just kill em' all and let God sort em' out
Is this what God wants us to do

(Repeat Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

Now you probably won't hear this on your radio
Probably not on your local TV
But if there's a time, and if you're ever so inclined
You can always hear it from me
How much is one picker's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

But don't confuse caring for weakness
You can't put that label on me
The truth is my weapon of mass protection
And I believe truth sets you free

(Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we've been told from our birth
Hell they won't lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liar's word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth?

Well, I served in the 101st Airborne, and the 75th Rangers,at the end of the Vietnam war. I went into the service without resignation, and did my duty. After all was said at the time about our presence there, we find out that, it was all a fabrication and 58,000 good men died for absolutely nothing. The people in charge put us there back then, and they're doing it again. I SUPPORT OUR TROOPS 100%, but , we must, as a nation of loyal Americans, think twice or more before we act on a supposed threat. I stood by my convictions back then, and I stand by my convictions to this day.
One, by God, Loyal American !!

Now that Willie has joined those evil Dixie Chicks in treason would you send his Cds to me instead of burning them this time ?

Thank goodness our president still has Toby Keith !

Bob

Funny thing both Willie and Keith both have a billy goat vibrato only for some reason Willie doesn't suck.

Looks like Willie is still at it. First he brings the rockers into country and now this. Has he lost his mind. He made his on country and now he is trying to give whats left to the has been rockers while the country musicians have to be burried with money from benifet shows. What a way to say thanks. Bite off the hand that feeds you.

Isn't it just a little bit ironic that in another thread everybody jumps up to defend the "free speech rights" of someone who may have committed libel and slander, while in this thread they jump down the throat of Willie Nelson for exercising his "free speech rights" in voicing a political opinion? I guess "free speech rights" only matter if you happen to agree with the opinion being voiced...

While I vehemently disagree with Willie’s song, I’m glad he chose to put his perspective in a song instead of entrapping his audience in a political speech at a concert. Now they can buy his record or not.

He’s cleverly tried to head off any discourse by claiming his opinion as “the truth” and by lumping us less enlightened folks together as a “bewildered herd”. Typical condescension.

Willie’s always been way to the left of me and I’ve never regarded him as much of a role model; not enough steel in his music and not enough taxes paid on all that money he’s made.

Leaving politics aside, His gospel album "The Troublemaker) features a lot of absolutely exquisite steel work by Jimmy Day.

Jim, I don't think anyone here is trying to shut Willie up, they're just voicing their disagreement with the message of his song.

I think Willie needs to ...get his head screwed on straight again.

Didn't Willy have something to do with that embarrasing, pandering piece of dreck "Beer for my horses" last year ? It would seem like an odd juxtaposition.
Maybe he woke up the next morning in a cold sweat, muttering "What have I done ?" and now he's making amends.
If thinking the general public is too dumb for words makes you condescending, then count me in.

Cross another one of my heros off...how many lives would Saddam have snuffed out in his own country this year? next year?...How many of ours in coming years? Anybody awake out there? I mean, North Korea inviting U. S. inspectors in to examine the nuclear sites? Wonder why? Other dangerous countries deciding to open to inspections! How many children did Saddam kill with gas; how many women died in rape camps? How many died in the torture chambers that were found? Any body home? And my hero Willie - in my opinion has lost it; my opinion only. Everyone can have one. And thats mine. A great writer, a fine singer. Not necessarily of a friend of the steel guitar. But have bought all of his past recordings (bought and paid for - not free on the internet). No more.

It may have to do with Willie's exposure to how politics at the highest level work while making the film "Wag The Dog". I know, I know...that movie was made during those dark days of American history known as The Clinton Administration when such things as lying to the people on TV was accepted as fact. Or am I confusing that time period with an earlier one when a certain president assured us all that he was "Not A Crook". I'm sorry, I am really mixing things up now...I was thinking of a Merle Haggard song called "Are Good Times Really Over For Good"

Gosh, I guess questioning our leader's motives and practices can come from all corners.

Me personally? I believe that the whole Iraq attack was the grand design of one Lee Greenwood in order to bolster sales of the remake of his signature hit.

(aside) "I wonder what Bob Dylan thinks of all this?

Bowie, I fully agree with you. Saddam needed to be taken out, and the U.S.A. was the only one with enough guts to do it. The Europeans were more concerned with their oil contracts and sniffing bicycle seats than with dictatorship and mass murder. The world is showing some respect again because we reached our limit and started killing our enemies, and they know that there is more to come if they screw with us anymore. That being said
I think that we were also oversold by Bush. I always thought that Willie Nelson left alot
to be desired as a professional entertainer. Good song writer/singer, but not my brand of country. He can have his opinion.

Long live Wille!!!!!!! Looks like he has been set free! Bush has done some good things since he took office but going to war in Iraq in the manner and under the pretence that he presented to the world was false. Nothing no one can say or defend him by will change that. That is one blunder of his we will all have to accept and live with. He is a man that depends on a whole system of people and they let him make false statements even in his 03 state of the Union speach to the nation. We who disagree with the way he went to war need to get over it and support the troops and find an end to this and get our boys ( my neighbors sons and daughters home). No where in our constitution can i read where it is wrong to disagree with one another it is what we do in that disagreement that is the wrong. Just like the election the country is split near 50/50. You are not going to chage my way of thinking and neither can i change yours. Thank God and the soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom of speech. I am sure the enemy has never ask what political party our soldiers are affilated with. We are the ones caught up in all this. Its not the war that bothers me, It is that this country is already filled with the people we are trying to fight against and they are just waiting for an opportunity to hit us again. I read somewhere where the soviets said they would take the USA and never fire another shot. Its took years but the truth is we are getting nearer to it. The enemy is in every section of our goverment from county to national. Keep your eyes and ears open because the war is right here in our home towns just waiting for a chance to rear its ugly head again. For the first time we are fighting the same war here in the USA that our brave men and women are engaging in in the middle east. We may not be in uniform but the battle can be won or lost by us!
