so here i am listening to this great new, albeit not "country", band The Thrills from Ireland and I am marveling at their songwriting chops and excellent and plentiful use of banjo and pedal steel. The first tune is like a cross between Brian Wilson and Bruce Springsteen and I am thinking WHO IS THIS GUY on steel...some Irish bloke? Nope.

Jay Dee Maness.

I should have known. Excellent work!

I also heard this song (Those Hollywood Kids) and knew this was no hack playing steel. Interestingly, I was driving with Greg Leisz when this song came on, and I heard it for the second time. It was interesting to hear Greg's reaction, as I at first, thought it was him playing on that song. He of course, loved the playing, thought it sounded exactly like Jay Dee, and was also impressed that the producer let Jay Dee actually bend some strings, something that most producers don't allow in that particular genre. Good work Jay Dee.
