And their timing's not the greatest in the world...
Funny you should mention Hag tunes. I spent a fair amount of time over Thanksgiving holidays recording some of my Hag LP's to CD. Not mass production, but I did burn 10 albums.
Unfortunately, the album this thread is titled after was among my few Hag 8-tracks. "I'm Always On A Mountain When I Fall" was among those I transferred to CD.
I've been rediscovering some of those great album cuts, some of which I'd forgotten about.

Heaven knows I been workin' hard...
Great tune! I heard it was written about Roy Nichols and his marriages. Seemed that every time he'd get married, by January they'd be divorced.

That's what I read too, Ernie. Merle wrote about it in his latest autobiography -- MY HOUSE OF MEMORIES. He was talking with Roy and asked how he and his girlfriend (or wife?) were getting along. Roy's reply, "If we make it through December we'll be fine", was written directly into the song.
So be carful what you say to Merle. He might just tell the world in a song.
