Hey..that's something I've been wondering about myself; every tim I hear "Gonna Find Me A Bluebird, I always think, "my..that steel has a nice tone. But have never heard anyone say who played on that session. I'm thinking maybe someone like Sunny Bernett. But I'm probably wrong. Surely there's someone on this forum who can tell us?

being one who has played that song with Marvin many times, the first time was a show in 58 at Medina Ballroom in Mn, The late Jim Colvard was leader & in addition to Rainwater, that show included, Wanda Jackson, Norma Jean, Bobby Lord & a couple locals, I also played a show last year at a Casino in Wi. with Darrell McCall, Jack Greene, & Marvin Rainwater, Yep, played Bluebird again 45 yrs later, who knows may even do it again> as for the record, Yes it was Jimmy Day in the key of B flat on his first Sho-Bud! au

Thanks for the information fellows
I was just listening to it this morning along with Oklahoma Hills and admiring the steel and wondered who it was
Sorry about mispelling Mr Rainwaters name but typing was never one of my better skills, guess BS is probably #1
Thanks again Larry

Hi Larry and the rest of the gang.Yes it was Jimmy Day on the record.I played steel guitar for Marvin Rainwater on the road back around 62 as i recall. He was one great person to work for and have as a friend and had the best sense of humor as any one i have ever known,on and off the stage. He would tell many jokes on stage, then tell the band jokes while traveling from gig to gig.He never seemed to run out of them.HE was a great showman and friend.I could tell some very funny stories about my times with him,but will let the past be.lol.
the very best to all.Tracy Oh yeah, many nights after a show he would give each of the band a 20.00 bill and say, good job. That was quite a bit back in those days, extra.

During shows with him Marvin has said to me many times, "Play it like Jimmy Day!"
