I am reading the morning paper (Jackson
Mississippi Clarion Ledger) and note the death of Boots Harris. Some of you may be interested in this. In 1941 he played steel for Hank Williams. He was 17 at the time.
In 1944 he wrote the song GEORGIA STEEL GUITAR that was recorded by the Georgia Peach Pickers and used as their theme song. He was on the Grand Ole Opry from 1942 until 1945 and was the first allowed to play an electric steel on the Opry. The memorial service will be tomorrow (Friday)

Thanks very much for the info on Boots.

I often think of him and play the "Georgia Peach Pickers" records that feature him.

"Georgia Steel Guitar" was one of the first steel songs I learned and I still play it.

May he rest in peace. Another steel great gone on.
(Thanx to Smiley Roberts for catching my faux-pas.)

Blake

I think Boots Harris played with Curly Williams and His Georgia Peach Pickers not Hank Williams.

I was quoting the obit in the paper which had been given by the family of Boots. At least they think Boots played with both Hank and Curly and I feel he must have told that to them. Personally I do not know. Bill
