GOO take notice..there is an executive producer who thinks Steel guitar belongs in Country music and puts it in your face on National TV..
In my view the ACM show was really fine..Some really fine performances and some great Steel playing way up in the mix...
The BUMPER music and playing was really great too..

This morning the talk on all the country stations was about the initials F.U.T.K. on Natilie Maimes' T-shirt. The hot theory is that it was directed at that buffoon Toby Keith. Right on girl ! |

regardless of whether or not we liked the show or the music content..or the singers..or their songs...or if the right person got the right award..the Steel was up front..and very dominant..something which is not all that common anymore...
I'm not really a fan of many of the winners but thats not the point..
Ok, whats up with Natalie's doo ? Was she thinking Mohican ? And Toby..you've been wanting an award , so now you got one..but where were you ? They spent his 30 seconds of "TALK" time looking or waiting for him...
Regardless..the Steel guitar was loud and up front for all who watched to hear...and in many cases ..to see...
and thats a good thing

Well, this comment has about the same amount of class as Natalie shows... which is to say none. Not withstanding the juvenile grandstanding of the chicks, wearing a t-shirt on national tv directing an obscenity at anyone is both clueless and classless. |

What does that have to do with the topic: "ACM show and Steel Guitar.."? Can we stick to the musical aspects of the show, please?

bOb, David's right. Please re-install the mod on your head.
And Tony, you're right. There WAS a lot of steel--none on the Keith/Willie duet, but who's keeping score, huh?
Whatever Natalie did, wore, said, WHATEVER,
was gonna make people mad. But it sure sounded like the folks in Austin were having a good time!
But it was a pretty good night for steel.
And time to stop watching two hour awards shows, just so we can complain about 'em. Would anybody with half a mind sit through a half hour sitcom, if it stunk? I don't think so. So what's the deal with these awards things? The most attention's going to the "navel of the week," whether it's Shania,
Keith Urban, Kenney Chesney....
And OUR people get the "Legend," "Hall of Fame,""Most Influential," or "Musician"(presented before airtime, of course).
So yeah, Tony, it WAS a good night for steel! Doug Jernigan in Saluda! THANKS, BUDDY! |

I quit watching award shows a long time time ago. When they televise steel guitar awards, I'll watch. |

I didn't catch the show, but if the steel guitar was out front in the mix, somebody will be getting their butt chewed for sure.
Usually the drum/bass section is in the front. It's the mix that the 80's Rock producers and executives, (that either can no longer get work in the rock field or have moved up the ladder slowly to this point,) want to hear. Simply: Today's country sounds a lot like 80's rock.

Is it my imagination or did most of this "too much drums/bass" thing start with Alabama? It seems they were the first wildly popular act that sounded suspiciously like rock/pop music to me. |

Ruben won, but Clay sang better the night before. But all in all I think Ruben was the better singer, and very consistant throughout the competition. |
