Well I went and did it now. I got a brand new Johnson Dobro.I know nothing about it and need to know the standard tuning and what strings I need to buy for it.I figure I can't play the steel that good so maybe I will be able to play 6 strings instead of 10. Ha. I will never give up laerning to play steel it has been a long almost seven years come Febuary.Any Help on the Dobro will be deeply appreciated.I fooled around with the Dobro today and tryed to play it like the steel some of it works but you have to move around on the fret board more.

Moved to the 'No Peddlers' section, where the Dobro players hang out. |

Hey Samuel, I think Mr. Gibson will sue you for calling your Johnson a Dobro. The judge will tell you that you must call it a resonator or resophonic guitar!!!!! What kind of flowers would you like in your cell????!!!!

A lot more....get ready to slip, slide, bounce, & bob (not b0b). You're going to have fun. This is a naturally happy instrument.

Who cares if it is a Dobro or resonator/
.It plays and sound like a dobro to me and that is all that matters.I have Dobro in my ProFex is Gibson going to sue me for that too.Hu I don't think I'll buy anything from gibson if that is the case. Case Closed.

Hey Samuel,
One thing I would suggest that some Reso players wouldn't is to wear the strap like a regular guitar or around your neck, instead of sticking your right arm around the back of the strap and then under it. Bashful Brother Ozwald said this was better, because it frees your right hand to do harmonics.
The "over and under" style was started by Uncle Josh Graves because in the old days everybody played though one microphone. When he played a solo he had to stand with the guitar pointed up and at an angle facing the microphone, and the "over and under" strap technique kept the guitar in place when he was playing his solo.
In todays world of amps and DI boxes it is only still done because people learned that way. So free up your right hand and play some chimes!
P.S.
I think George was just kiddin' around and didn't mean anything by it.
For instance, sometimes I give people a hard time if they call my Fender on legs a "lap" steel. It's all good natured, though.

I hope all your guys didn't take me seriously. I just don't know where the "smile" key is on the keyboard.
