I know there is a lot of info out there other than steel. I am wondering if you have ever seen a steel string electric guitar with a 2" nut bridge. In addition to my steel I enjoy trying to hit a few of those Merle Travis licks. I have a Gretsch Country Gentleman and Gibson Country Gentleman. However, the ends of my fingers are so large that I sometimes muffle a string. I have a Godin classical electric that has a two inch nut bridge; however, it will take only nylon strings. Thanks. Bill there is a Korean company called ASLIN DANE that makes a jazz guitar with a 1&7/8 inch nut. It is the Peter Rogine model. Here are some links.

I am sold on this company. I have 3 of their guitars and I'm very pleased with all of them. One of them, a double cutaway semi hollow body model they call the Jumbo Jazz that's sort of like a 335 with a wider bout, plays and sounds as good as any Gibson I've ever played, and better than quite a few of them. I like it better than my Gretsch Country Gent.
The Rogine model's nut is too wide for me, but I have a friend who is a classical guitarist, and he has one of these guitars and loves it. Partly because if the wide nut, and partly because he loves the overall quality and sound.
Check out the reviews this company's guitars have been getting.

Hi there.
FWIW.
Taylor guitars use 1 7/8 nut as standard starting a coupla years ago.
Many Martins come with 1 7/8 now. (1 3/4 was the standard I think)
I bet you could have new nuts made for your two fine guitars that would be wider than what you have.
Hope this helps. |

FYI, I took a B-bender lesson from Will Ray, one of the Hellecasters, a few years back, and the ends of that guys fingers are huge. They are so big that he can fret two strings with the TIP of one finger with ease. He's considered one of the monsters of the Telecaster. |

Since it's not about "Steel Players", I've moved this topic to the "Music" section of the Forum.

Sorry Bob that I put this in the wrong place.
Thanks to all of you who responded. This has been most helpful. Especially thank you Mike Perlowin. I am in touch with Aslin Dane (never heard of this before you mentioned it) and this will probably be the way to go for me. I have your album FIREBIRD SUITE.
I commend you for this pioneer move and taking the steel where it has not been. |

I'm glad you like the CD Bill. Hopefully my second one will be released soon.
Getting back to the subject, my friend with the guitar in question says it's OK to give you his name and phone number so you can ask him about it. Rather than post that information publicly, I'm going to send you an E-mail.
Publicly I will say that I think Aslin Dane is the best low to medium priced guitar on the market. I think they are several steps above anything in their price range, and even better than guitars costing considerably more. This was conformed only yesterday on another forum I visit. On that forum, we all use monikers rather than our real names. I'm "Stringman." On that forum somebody bought one of threse guitars on my recommendation. Here is the link to what they have to say about it.

Thanks Mike. I have bought the Aslin Dane Peter Rogine guitar. I never cease to be amazed at the assistance one can have from the Forum. Thanks Bob and you can close this anytime. |
