I recently bought this album to fill in my Chris Hillman, Burrito Bros., Gram Parsons, Country rock collection. It looked like it had all the elements I look for includiding Jaydee Maness on Steel.
I have been playing it a lot on my way to work. I really like this album even though it covers a lot of Desert Rose territory. You can hear Jaydee's evolution from his 70's sound to his masterful modern sound.
What really blows me away, though, is John Jorgenson's guitar playing. His understated playing keeps running thru my mind even when I am not listening to it. In some ways it reminds me of James Burton's classic country sound but then it takes new turns and covers uncharted territory. One of my favorite cuts is "He's back and I'm Blue". Their version of "Once More" is a killer too.

I strongly agree. John is a great and tasty player. His parts are really recorded great too. Tone to die for. I hear many influences in his playing, even Beatles.
Add JayDee to the lead section and you have a band that should have got a lot more recognition. |

If you like Jorgenson's playing, check out the albums by the Hellecasters (Jorgenson, Will Ray, Jerry Donahue). Nothing understated about the playing on those albums, but a real demonstration of fine, fine guitar chops. |

I really like their version of Hello Trouble with Herb Pedersen on lead vocal. JayDee and John J. both play hot breaks on this one. Also there's some cool pickin' on The Story of Love. If you like to hear an echo type repeating thing done to perfection try The Price I Pay. John has it mastered.
