Was listening to this song today by Joe Zawinul(of course) and thought this would be great on steel.

Has anyone played or recorded this in the past and if not,.....Shouldn't someone do this? Doug Jernigan or Herby comes to mind, also my friend Jim Cohen.

Jeff Newman had this song on one of his instructional courses. Larry Sasser has played it before and I think it is on one of his tapes.

Jeff Newman plays it and has it tabbed out on his "Music To Get C6 By" course.

I believe the great Curly Chalker also recorded this classic. In fact, I used to have the tape recording (I lost it over the many years and moves, dang it!) that Tom Bradshaw produced through the old Steel Guitar Record Club in the late 70's/early '80's. He may still offer it.

I believe Jeff's course has only 2 Mercy's, not 3.

Jim, You can always pull it off and you always pick some great songs to cover. M,M,M would be great with a few players trading off each other, then coming together for the main theme. Sort of like C-Jam Blues when played at a Steel Jam session. Think about it

It is on my new C.D. I was honored to have Derico Watson (currently touring with Victor Wooten) on the track as well.

I always get Joe Zawinul's "Mercy Mercy Mercy" confused with Floyd Cramer's "Last Date".

Gee, And I thought it was just me. Then again, I always get the music on the Dukes of Hazard confused with that Charlie Parker stuff.

Thanks everyone for your reply's , I look forward to getting some of these recordings mentioned.
I think it's cool that so many have already done this song, it's a real testiment to the diverse musical tastes in our community.

Larry Sasser did that one on his album "Sassy Frassin'". And of course, Jeff Newman, as Jim Smith said.
