Orville, I read over at the J. Douglas Forum that you have a Weissenborn-style guitar made from Yellow Cedar? By that did you mean Alaskan Yellow Cedar? (actually a Cypress) What are the back and sides?
I have a Weiss-sized AYC top set that I've been wanting to pair up with some quilted Mahogany and was looking for some 'thumbs up' comments on it's tone before committing to it. |

yes my guitar is alaskan yellow cedar AKA pacific cypress. the whole thing, back, sides and top. the fretboard is some reddish mexican wood that i can never recall the name of, but otherwise it's all cedar. i love the way it sounds. compared to the koa bear creeks i've played it has a richer low end and not as much brightness (or perhaps harshness) in the highs. i like the extra low end i get which makes it not as good for live acoustic playing cuz it won't cut thru a bunch of other guitars playing but it sounds great on tape which is what i mostly use it for. it sounds more similar to original weissenborns i've played to me. |
